Volunteer

We always welcome new volunteers and truly appreciate your time. Help is mostly needed with chopping veggies and creating the day's menu, which is a simple one that usually consists of rice, beans, stew, and salad. You are welcome to come and stay for as long as you want/can. Following is a list of steps that we take throughout the week and on Sunday that enable us to cook for 300+ people.

  • Kitchen Location
    Ag Lago House
    1069 Sanborn Avenue
    Los Angeles, CA 90029
Next to Lovecraft Biofuels in Silver Lake. Please enter through the driveway, not the front entrance. Just walk up the driveway and you'll find us out back behind the house.
  • Food Pick-Up
Hollywood Farmers' Market at 2 p.m.. We need someone with a vehicle that is able to transport several boxes of vegetables and fruits. Most of us don't drive and don't own cars, so this is a big one. The more people that volunteer for this, the easier it is to alternate weekly. Email for more info.
  • Rice and Beans
Cooking begins at noon. This is a simple, one person job.
  • Chopping & Cooking
Sundays from 2:00 p.m. thru 6 p.m. No prior cooking skills are necessary. It's all simple to do and we'll teach you anything you need to know.
  • Food Delivery
Our access to vehicles is limited, so if you have a car and are willing to load it up with hot food to be delivered to downtown, that would be awesome.
  • Serving Location & Time, Sundays:
    • Pershing Square at approximately 6:15 p.m. (between Hill Street and Olive Street & between 5th Street and 6th Street) Map
    • San Julian Street between 5th Street and 6th Street at approximately 7:15 p.m. Map
  • Clean-Up
    • 6 p.m. A few volunteers are needed to clean up the kitchen after we finish cooking while others go downtown to serve.
    • 8:30 p.m. Several volunteers are needed to clean up all the pots and utensils that were used to serve our meals.
